This course is designed for people who wish to be employed as a CCTV operator for public space surveillance. If you wish to choose this career path then you must be in possession of a licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

This nationally recognised qualification, which is endorsed by the SIA, is the industry standard and enables a CCTV operator to meet one of the requirements to apply for their licence to practise work in the Security Industry.

Training starts at a very basic level. Even if you have had no experience in the security industry our course is set up to make it easy to understand.  The course provides candidates with the basic knowledge and understanding of the industry.

Successful completion of the qualification will enable candidates to apply for a licence to practise which will enable them to work within the CCTV (Public Space Surveillance) industry.

Unit 1 – Working for the Private Security Industry

This unit covers the following topics:

  •   Module 1: Private Security Industry and awareness of the law.
  •   Module 2: Health and Safety for the Private Security Operative
  •   Module 3: Fire Safety Awareness
  •   Module 4: Emergency Procedures
  •   Module 5: The Private Security Industry
  •   Module 6: Communication Skills and Customer Care

Unit 2 – Working as a CCTV Operator:

This unit covers the following topics:

Module 1: Introduction to the CCTV Control Room

  •   Module 2:  Radio Communications   Module 3: Searching for People
  •   Module 4:  Tracking People
  •   Module 5: Searching for Vehicles
  •   Module 6: Searching for Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)
  •   Module 7: Scenario Based Practical Exercises
  •   Module 8: Log keeping and Witness Statements

Unit 3 – Practical Operation of CCTV Equipment:

This unit is intended for people who want to work in the private security industry and who require an SIA license to practice. It covers the skills for areas that are relevant to the role of a CCTV Operator in the practical operation of CCVT equipment. Learners will need to demonstrate that they can use CCTV equipment and that they can operate a CCTV system.


  •  Working in the Private Security Industry– 25 multiple choice questions and you must achieve 18 out of 25 to pass – Duration: 40 minutes
  • Working as a CCTV Operator – 40 multiple choice questions and you must achieve 28 out of 40 to pass – Duration: 60Mins
  • Practical Assessment including scenario based learning throughout the day
